YUKO SHIMIZU
Yuko Shimizu is an award-winning Japanese illus­trator based in New York and instructor at School of Visual Arts. Visually engaging, imag­i­native and provoca­tive, she creates a unique and alluring uni­verse through her illus­trations.

Her work has appeared on The Gap shirts, Pepsi cans, VISA billboards, Apple, Microsoft, NIKE and Target ads, as well as on book covers of Penguin, Scholastic, DC Comics, and on the pages of Time, Newsweek, NY Times, Playboy Mag­a­zine, Rolling Stone, GQ, The New Yorker, WIRED and in many other publications.
In 2009, Yuko Shimizu was selected by News­week Japan for being one of “100 Japanese People The World Respects”, and she is nom­i­nated for the pres­ti­gious HUGO Award for Best Pro­fes­sion­al Artist 2019.

Her first self-titled mono­graph came out in 2011 (Gestalten), second mono­graph "Living with Yuko Shimizu" was released from ROADS Pub­lish­ing in 2016. Other books include "A Wild Swan" (FSG, 2015), and the award winning chil­dren’s book "Barbed Wire Base­ball" (Abrams, 2013). Her new book about a cat rescuer during war in Syria, called "Cat Man of Aleppo" will be pub­lished 2020 by Penguin.
